Besides Kirtland, we hit our first church historic site. The Hiram stake was throwing a get together at the John Johnson Farm. It is about 1 hour from us, a lot of important Church things happened here, like several revelations from the D & C- 15 or so, Joseph translated the Bible here, and this is where he was tarred and feathered, gave a sermon the next day, and then the little twin baby dies from being exposed in the cold. Pretty cool place, and the spirit is amazing.
The Johnson's were pretty amazing people. They were very wealthy and you can tell by their home. Elsa had bright pant colors throughout her home, when in the 1820's no one even had paint. The home was very large and unique.
Here are some cool pictures:
Here is Abby in one of the other bedrooms.
This is the desk where the translations occurred.
Here is the winter kitchen, see the amazing paint and detail on the woodwork. The colors in the house were white, turquoise blue, orange, yellow. It's cool.
And a cute one of Abby and dad dancing, there was a banjo band playing, and we had a grilled hot dog lunch.
We drove a guy from our ward with us, Bill. It was a great experience.
